Power of Voice

Becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. It’s forward motion, a means of evolving, a way to reach continuosly towards a better self.

Michelle Obama

If you don’t see that your story matters, chances are no one else will either. So even though it isn’t always easy, it’s important for you to find strength to share your truth. Because the world needs to hear it.

Michelle Obama

Your story is the most powerful part of who you are-the struggles, failures, successes, and everything in between. Remember always to stay open to new experiences and never let the doubters get in the way.

  1. OMG Tammy, didn’t you just enjoy this book? 📖 I read it when she launched it and sent it to my sister and a friend of mine as a gift. The reviews are absolutely amazing and people embraced the lessons First Lady Obama shared throughout her life. Quite humbling, but inspiring. Once I picked it up, I just couldn’t put it down. I wanted more! 🤗💖😊

My husband gave me a book written by Jennifer Worick called “What’s Your M.O.?” (Living Your Best Life, The Michelle Obama Way). The book is based on highlighting some of the memorable and valuable lessons from Michelle Obama’s memoir and her life experiences.

“Becoming” is like a coming of age book for adults. She certainly dealt with the bigotry and nastiness hurled at her and her family while they were in the White House in a dignified and regal manner. 👏🏼🥂👏🏼 When they went low, she certainly went high. What class! 😎

    1. Haha, I was thinking of you and a few others I’ve become acquainted with in this community. I told you we have lots in common. I fell in love with it when I read it and then found the journal. I’ve given at least a dozen out as gifts to some young woman who desperately seek the courage to find their voices. I also have used it as sort of a tool when I speak. Hugs to you all the way from Cali.

      1. Speak on girlfriend. 👍🏼 You know, we are able to empower when we are empowered Tammy. Continue sharing such valuable tools and messages.

I too feed off of people who have gone through some things, were probably left for dead, but rose from the ashes and survived in spite of. We need continued positive influences nowadays. It’s easy to get lost in the rhetoric of negativity if you’re not careful. Thanks for sharing…coming to you “live” from N.C. 🌞✨💖

      2. Tammy, hang in there. It’s been a little challenging at times to stay focused. I understand how it is when you must force yourself to slow down.

The burial of my sister a week ago remains fresh, but she left a strong legacy of faith, love and good works, so it gives me courage and encourages me to try to remain positive and keep my focus. It’s not about me but about serving the purpose God needs for me to remain steadfast in. I think the challenges we go through and GROW through helps us to look on the bright side of life. Take all the time you need to relax, release, repair, and retreat to your corner of the world of sanity. Take a deep breath and then move forward. Think about Michelle, who is a good example about learning adjust when you need to! If you aren’t well, you can’t do anything for anyone else! 🤔

Stay encouraged. Hugs and smooches sweetie! 🤗💖🙏🏼

      3. Yup, you’re right on. It’s just the epilepsy. Doctor’s haven’t given me any answers, so I’ve had to do my own research to find what triggers the seizures. It all about me understanding how & when to pace myself. I’ve had to learn to work different than I did before, but I’m good. I’m sure you’ve made your sister proud.

      4. Oh Tammy, I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but I am so proud of you for being proactive to look at what is triggering your seizures and doing something about it. Thank you for the sweet comment about my sister. 🙏🏼

Girl, sometimes will all of our ills and conditions it usually points back to stress and overwhelm. Sometimes folks make you think that you are doomed, but I am sooooo glad that you are not just sitting there and accepting doom as the norm. I love your spirit and you continue to fight the good fight of faith girlfriend. You control the epilepsy, don’t let it dominate you! Stay encouraged and continue to stay focused. 😊💖👍🏼 You will be okay. Remember that! You are stronger than you think, but don’t forget you are not superwoman. Take care of yourself! 💋😘❤

      5. It’s all about choices & I choose to set an example for my babies. Mind over matter. People go through much worse and I’ve overcome too much to give up now. I’ll be sure to email you sometime this week so I don’t expose too much on this platform ♥️.

  2. Ah Tammy I needed this post today. I got dissed on my blog yesterday for my poem. I read your “about” section and I appreciate all you do to help support others and raise awareness. I went through several deep deep depressions, starting in childhood. At the time there wasn’t support and I wasn’t to talk about it. Grief wasn’t talked about or supported in spite of going through someone close to me dying every six years, in spite of growing up so severely ill I never knew if I’d be alive the next day. I’m so glad that mental health challenges are now more out in the open. There is still so far to go though. So I bow to you 🙂

      1. Thank you. I purposely chose to “come out of the closet” with my deep spirituality and the mission I am working on, one that Jesus and the disciples came to remind me of when I was nine. My family was into silence, secrets, not talking, so after feeling how that had added to my physical illness and mental/emotional challenges I decided not to hide or keep it in anymore. Thanks for your support 🙂
