I’d like to share this work that clearly reflects the “voice” and “style” of the poet. Although I love poems of all genre’s, I especially enjoy when it speaks to me loud and clear.

Homage to my Hips
These hips are big hips
they need space to
move around in.
They do not fit into little
petty places, these hips
are free hips.
They don't like to be held back.
These hips have never been enslaved,
they go where they want to go
they do what they want to do.
These hips are mighty hips.
These hips are magic hips.
I have known them
to put a spell on a man and
spin him like a top!

Tammy Wynette is a mother of three and a “G-MA” (grandma). Born in Warren, Arkansas, she currently resides in Sacramento, CA and is pursuing an AA degree in English at American River College, with plans to transfer to California State University, Sacramento (Sac State).
